Basketball betting
Basketball produces lots of points and frequent swings in momentum, so its markets differ from football's. We explain the common ones without quoting odds, leagues or limits at Ekatoto.
Moneyline
A bet on the winner. Basketball almost never ends level because overtime is played, so the moneyline usually has only two options.
Point spread
Because teams can differ widely in strength, bookmakers use a points line. The favourite must win by more than the line for a bet on it to win. Half-point lines rule out a refund.

Illustration only: team A is -6.5. If A wins by seven or more, a bet on A wins. If A wins by six or fewer, or loses, a bet on B at +6.5 wins.
Totals
Over/under on combined points. Pace, defensive style and back-to-back schedules affect totals, but bookmakers account for them too.
Quarter and half markets
Many bookmakers offer markets per quarter or half. They settle quickly, which is exactly why they encourage repeated betting within one game.
Overtime
Settlement rules decide whether overtime counts. For moneyline and full-game totals it usually does, but read the market rules, because it is not universal.
Player props
Some bookmakers offer player statistics markets such as points, rebounds or assists. Rules for players who do not start or leave early vary and decide whether a bet is voided.
Pace and balance
Basketball is full of breaks: timeouts, quarter changes, free throws. Every break is a chance for another in-play bet. Decide the number of bets per game before tip-off and stick to it. Winnings reach the balance once the market is settled; payouts follow the same route as the casino. Many major leagues play in time zones that put games in the early hours in Indonesia, and betting while fighting sleep is a poor combination for money decisions.
Same-game combinations
Combining several markets from one game on a single slip looks attractive, but those markets are linked: a high total and a big favourite's win tend to move together. Bookmakers price the combination with that link in mind, and the margin on such slips is usually higher than on singles. If you want to keep your spending easy to track, stick to one fixed-stake bet per game and log it next to the deposit that funded it.
